World Climate Action Day

2016

Jun 17th

At Eu Residence, Zamalek

To mark World Climate Action Day on June 17th, the European Union Delegation to Egypt, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany through the ‘Cairo Climate Talks’ and the French Embassy co-organized a screening of the documentary “Home” in the garden of the EU residence.

The European Union delegation head, Ambassador James Moran, gave a speech, followed by Mr. Christoph Retzlaff, deputy head of mission of the German Embassy, and H.E. André Parant, the French Ambassador, all showing their countries’ strong commitment to halt the devastating effects of climate change.

“Home” is a 2009 film by French photographer and documentary maker Yann Arthus-Betrand which is almost entirely composed of aerial shots of various strikingly beautiful, but threatened, places on Earth. It highlights the diversity of life on Earth and the ecological imbalance anthropogenic activities have created on our planet.

The Conference of the Parties (COP21), which is drawing nearer, is expected to achieve a global climate deal in Paris this december that would limit global temperature rise to below 2°C on pre-industrial levels. To highlight the EU’s leadership and commitment to tackling climate change, EU delegations in over 50 locations worldwide, in partnership with Germany, France, Great Britain and other EU States have coordinated climate-related activities and social media campaigns.
