2012

Sep 26th

At DAAD Cairo, 11, Sh. Saleh Ayoub, Zamalek, Cairo

Climate Change is one of the most fundamental challenges ever to confront humanity. Dealing decisively with climate change is not thinkable without a massive implication of our youth – the pillar of the society of tomorrow. To raise the awareness of the youth for climate change, early environmental education is of essential importance.
That is why CCT chose to dedicated its 9th event to that theme.

During the introductory discussion four keynote speakers gave an overview of current projects, possibilities of cooperation as well as their own experiences within the field of environmental educational work.

Guest speakers were Mourad Farahat – 11th Grade Student at Europa-Schule Kairo – Member of the “youTHINKGREEN” Project, Nermine Fakoussa – Siemens S.A.E – Corporate Communications, Simone Jore – Goethe Institut Kairo – Project Director “Schools: Partners of the Future” and A. Prof. Barbara Pampe – Faculty of Architecture & Urban Design GUC – Co-Initiator & Coordinator of the Project “Learn-Move-Play-Ground”

After the discussion, a short Videomessage that Felix, the initiator of Plant for the Planet, recorded on the same day in Germany especially for CCT was shown.

This was followed by the German documentary film “Weil ich länger lebe als Du” (“Because I will live longer than you”). It presented the children-initiative “Plant for the Planet” and children all over the globe who take global matters into their own hands. The director of the Film, Henriette Bornkamm was also present during the event.

In the spirit of the “Plant for the Planet” Initiative, CCT announced the donation of 50 trees for two Cairene Schools: El Kods in Ard El Lewa & Kobet El Hawa in Shobra in the context of the “Learn-Move-Play-Ground” Project. A donation certificate as well as symbolic trees were handed over to the representatives of the project.

After that, there were ample networking opportunities with various organizations and schools who presented themselves and their own environmental projects in the garden of the DAAD.
